On the evening of the same day, another crowd of women, all dressed in their ‘ashobis’, assembled at Mabanta Road in central Makeni, where songs of praises were sang in honour of the First Lady.
The First Lady, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Kadia Sam Sumana.
First Lady, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma in her address to the women, expressed delight and appreciation over the honour bestowed on her.
She thanked them for turning up in their numbers to grace the party’s National Delegates’ Conference.
Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma reiterated how close she is to the people of Makeni, stating that they are her in-laws; as the President hails from Makeni.
"Honestly, I have been emotionally moved by the manner in which you have shown appreciation for the work I am doing", she happily stated, whilst pledging her determination to continue in her drive to improve the status of the country’s women population, especially the rural women.
She assured them that she will do her utmost to ensure that the current high infant and maternal mortality rate in the country is reduced to its barest minimum.
She informed them that she has been asked to deliver a paper on the effects of infant mortality on the lives of women in Sierra Leone, at a conference holding in Los Angeles, in the United States of America.
The First Lady has since left the shores of Sierra Leone, and is currently in Los Angeles.
