The Girls Are Dressed Half Naked,…And So What?

If immediate deterring measures are not put in place to curtail the spate of rapes, Sierra Leone will no doubt have to face a disastrous future. The male population is seemingly enjoying field days raping women and children. As unbelievable as it may sound, men as old as 65 years are raping children as young as six years, and even three months old babies. This is no exaggeration but just the alarming reality on the ground. It is really unimaginable for a man to force a woman to sex without the consent of the latter. What a morally incorrect act? With no disregard to the laws of our land, a 65 years old man caught in the act of raping a 6 years old girl should not be charged to court for rape; but rather, he should be dragged to court on murder charges, convicted as a murderer and sentenced as a killer.

Unfortunately however, most of these perpetrators are left unpunished, whilst others continue to enjoy mild imprisonment sentences or pay pittances in the name of fines.

On another sad note, parents and/or relatives of rape victims, have in most cases refused to pursue these matters to their logical conclusion. They prefer settling this dastardly act as family matters, either because the perpetrators offer to pay them money or pleaded for forgiveness. The families will accept these offers and pleas whilst the victim is left to suffer inwardly, in some cases, for the rest of their lives.

I feel like strangling someone to death when I here the unreasonable and inconvincible excuses forwarded as reasons for raping young girls. The girls are raped because they are dressed half naked to seduce the men; what a disgustful excuse? Okay, let us accept that the girls are dressed half naked, but does that give a man the passport to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her? Of course, the answer is a big NO.

In as much as I do not want to be seen as a supporter of the dress codes of most of the young girls of this 21st century, I have hundred percent respect for the way and manner one chooses to live his or her life. If young girls have no qualms with dressing half naked, let them be.

Wait a minute, when has anyone had that a man has been sexually assaulted because he is dressed half naked? Or does it mean that men do not dress half naked? They do of course, but no girl has ever forced a man to have sex because he is dressed half naked.

Men wore short and tight trousers that exposed their manhood; they sometimes work in the streets with no shirts on; they expose their penis when they feel like urinating in the streets, but they are never raped. Instead, the women will look the other side and continue their journey. So what is this nonsense about their half naked dresses being responsible for the uncountable rapes in the country? Will they start dressing with their bodies and faces fully covered because you are raping them? Of course no, they will not.

Therefore, if you are a he goat and knows you cannot control your sexual feelings when you spot a girl half naked, it is advisable that you start running or better still use a black cloth to wrap your face when you come across one. There is no excuse whatsoever to rape someone, no excuse.

Also, the government must put stringent measures in place to deal with rape perpetrators, or else…..am afraid.
