The Inspector General of Police, Brima Acha Kamara has on Wednesday 23rd June 2010 disclosed to journalists at Police Headquarters in Freetown that new promotions for serving personnel will be out by next week. He said the promotion starting from the rank of Sergeant is a process that started from 7 to 8 Month back to ensure its transparency. I.G Kamara went on to say that they did not want to disadvantage anybody that was why they instituted rigorous procedures such as interview and other set criteria.

The decision reached for promotion is not unilateral, but with senior colleagues represented on the board," he informed," though he said at times he uses his discretion. IG Acha Kamara further disclosed that from constable to Sergeant there are 700 Police Personnel slated, while from Sergeant to Inspector there are 1000 personnel for promotion. He said priority is given to women as most of the women work harder than some men. "For Women there are 25% from each region and that promotion also goes with recommendations from neutral persons once they are sure the officer in question is doing well.

He also said the Police Force is one of the most Democratic and nobody will spoil the image of the Force for good. He ended by saying that 3 Women Police Officers will leave for Sweden to take part in training, and 100 male officers will leave for Ghana with 163 for Darfur for Special training.
