A non-profit organization in the United States, called Friends of Sierra Leone has started a massive campaign to lobby the United States government to send Peace Corps once again to Sierra Leone.
In an e-mail sent by the organization’s President, Peggy Murrah, it was indicated that the organization is composed of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, VSOs, CUSOs, Sierra Leoneans and "other people who simply care about Sierra Leone." The e-mail asserts that one of the organization’s main advocacy issues is the return of Peace Corps to Sierra Leone.
To achieve this very crucial advocacy objective however, the Friends of Sierra Leone’s President is requesting letters from Sierra Leoneans explaining their personal contacts with Peace Corps in the past and highlighting the positive impacts these contacts experiences and have had on them or their communities.
"Friends of Sierra Leone is working hard to convince our government in the US that it is time to return Peace Corps to Sierra Leone. We would appreciate any input from the citizens of Sierra Leone," the e-mail stated, pointing out further, "We are trying to convince our elected officials that it is in the best interest of both countries and their citizens that this happens." To get in touch with ‘Friends of Sierra Leone’ for the purpose of getting Peace Corps back to this country, please mail your letters to:
