HAWK Construction Company workers, who are strong supporters of the English Premier League team called Wolves Hampton, have donated fifty (50) footballs and two sets of jerseys to two communities in their operational districts of Tonkolili and Port Loko, northern Sierra Leone.
Making the presentation to the Kemedugu Community Primary School in the Kalasongia Chiefdom, Tonkolili District on Sunday 23rd January 2011, HAWK’s Neil Davenhill told the assembled teachers, pupils and community elders that the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility.
“The company and workers are always committed towards community empowerment and the promotion of education and sports,” he said, while disclosing that the gesture came from Wolves Hampton supporters working for HAWK. He disclosed their intention to create a strong relationship between Sierra Leone soccer fans and Wolves Hampton.
At the Lunsar presentation ceremony in the Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko District, Hawk Wolves supporters headed by Paul Blackburn, HAWK Project Manager and Neil Davenhill said the gifts are as a result of the love and passion for youths in the country that they want to promote through football. They said it would also be a way of raising awareness about the English club.
According to Mr. Neil, the kits given to them by the Wolves supporters were meant to bring the Wolves club support to youths in this part of the world. He therefore called on them to start thinking of setting up support clubs for Wolves just as with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and others.
He ended on the note of assurance that they will continue to support football in the country.
In both communities, the HAWK workers were heartily thanked for creating relationship between Wolves and Sierra Leone and promised to work with them to set up support clubs in the country.
“We never knew much about Wolves but the donation has demonstrated that it is a big football team in England,” noted the Chairman and Team Manager for Marampa Stars in Lunsar, Idrissa Kamara. He assured the supporters of taking the team’s name to all the corners of Port Loko and beyond, while pledging to set up Wolves Football Team in the district.
