Sierra Leone Timbergate: Momoh Konte Dismisses Anas

Momoh Konte, one of the two indicted persons in the timbergate matter contacted Awareness Times yesterday April 18th 2012 to disclaim the allegation over Ghanaian TV uttered by an ACC witness, Mr. Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas alleges Konte proposed for sharing of 35% of a timber company between Konte and the Vice-President.

“I have now watched the Ghanaian video over the Internet. I am categorically stating that what the man said about me requesting to share 35% between me and the VP is very untrue,” Konte said.

Momoh Konte also protested his total innocence of entire indictment as filed against him by Anti Corruption Commission. He said him & his lawyers are “eager” for the case to start.

Meanwhile, we have today produced the full text of the ACC Indictment. (See below)

The 7-Counts indictment clearly does not include a charge concerning soliciting 35% of anything.

Furthermore, contrary to this past Tuesday’s  REUTERS report by Simon Akam, absolutely none of the seven charges includes the crime of “taking of bribes”. This is because there just is no evidence to justify a charge for taking bribes and/or actually accepting an advantage.

The dollars which were shown being handed over to Konte in Al Jazeera documentary were a receipted legitimate business transaction.

Meanwhile, according to a release sent to our offices yesterday April 18th 2012, Alex Mansaray, currently in New Jersey, USA, has hired Lawyer Melron Nicol-Wilson to seek his interest when the case comes up tomorrow.

It can be recalled that whilst Mansaray has acknowledged soliciting monies, he had also gone on to explain that such action by him was simply a business tactic to test potential investors whilst he carefully looked at their facial features in order to tactically examine their credibilities as genuine businessmen with real money to invest. That is his explanation. Alex Mansaray is a known private businessman.
