Some people feel President Koroma dispatched too many officials to help resolve civil unrest in Bumbuna. I hold a different view. Situation warranted no less. The fact that so many indigenes were injured and at least one dead, means a high powered delegation should enter the area to show the regime’s concern for the value for life & limb.
Further, due to the tenacity of Frank Timis and certain Sierra Leoneans, African Minerals is now a strong development pillar in the country. Whilst economies of many African countries are plunging downhill, we grow because of pillars like African Minerals. Government must thus treat anything concerning the company with seriousness.
Also, my opinion is, delegation was not large enough as it did not include officials from Ministry of Social Welfare/ Gender Affairs nor members of National Youth Commission. Most of the violence was wrought by the youthful populace of Bumbuna and it is incumbent on Government for all such youth-related unrests to obtain full involvement of National Youth Commission in its resolution. Our Youth Commission should not be a white elephant. It should be relevant.
Additionally, reports are Bumbuna women demonstrating using secret Bondo Society is what got one woman killed. This should involve Gender Desk of Social Welfare Ministry.
So whilst I commend our President for his wisdom in sending in such high powered delegation to Bumbuna, I do however fault him for not including Youths of NAYCOM and not also including Women from Social Welfare ministry.
