Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense on Friday 4th May 2012, promoted over forty men and women of the force to various ranks including Captains, Lieutenant Colonels and full Colonels among other ranks in Makeni Town. According to the Media Officer attached to the Ministry of Defense, Major Samuel Moody, the promotion of officers and other ranks was done following a careful scrutiny and selection by the Board Committee for officers that met the stipulated conditions for promotions. He said most of these promotions should have been promulgated long before now, with a great number promoted with annotations.
However, the Major maintained that this does not preclude the possibility for subsequent promotions. According to him, the past promotion also included substantive officers who were due promotions since 2010.

For his part, the Acting Chief of Defense Staff, Brigadier Samuel O. Williams, maintained that the promotion of senior military officers and other ranks underscored the significance in maintaining the integrity and reward of hardworking men and women of the force.
Among senior officers promoted were Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) B.K. Conteh, Lt Col SET Marah, Lt Col B.T. Massaquoi, Lt Col A.H. Bangura, Lt Col R.B. Harlston and Lieutenant I. Turay.
