The Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) representing the All People’s Congress Party (APC) in Constituency 105, Hon. Nuru Deen Sankoh Yillah, has on Saturday 5th May 2012 said in Freetown that, the Local Government and their various Councils have failed to thoroughly implement Government projects in the country, especially within the Western Urban, Freetown.
MP Nuru Deen made this statement at the launch of a newly established youth organization, “Perfect Sisters” at Bombay in the east end of Freetown. According to him, as part of the decentralization process, Government has allocated funds to all local councils to carry out development functions in their various wards.
He expressed dismay that most of these projects are yet to be implemented by the councils. The honorable went on that this has caused community members to rely on members of parliament to bring developments to their communities. The honorable cited that on several occasions, parliament has approved budgets that should be used for the development of communities through the local councils but that these monies have not been accounted for by the councils and no development has been made so far.
He reminded his audience that some of their roles as members of parliament include to make laws, represent their people in decision making and other functionaries of national development but not to bring development to communities. Hon. Nuru Deen used the forum to urge the Ministry of Local Government and all Local councils to ensure they fully implement Government projects given to them for implementation.
