The Institute Of Chartered Accountants Of Sierra Leone

The Institute of Chartered Accounts of Sierra Leone (ICASL) celebrates its 24th anniversary on 12 May, 2012. The President and Council congratulate all members of the Institute and wish you all another year of success and progress in your professional journey.

In celebrating this 24th anniversary, the Institute will launch its quarterly magazine “The Chartered Accountant” in July, 2012. The magazine will be the voice of Chartered Accountants in Sierra Leone. The magazine will have a circulation of 2,500 copies printed in high quality paper in full colour. All members are encouraged to make contributions to the publication now and in the future.

The Institute has during the past 12 months launched the Accounting Technicians Scheme in West Africa. This scheme is a tailor-made programme of training for Accounting Technicians specifically for the West Africa sub region and especially for member countries of the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa. Two examination sessions were held in September, 2012 and March 2012. It is out hope that the scheme will gain popularity in the Country as more students register and enter for the examinations. Efforts are being made to engage tuition providers who will specifically address the needs of ATSWA students.

Funds for implementing the action plan for the strengthening of the accounting profess in Sierra Leone have been secured; a procurement plan has been prepared and implementation of the action plan will commence shortly.

Membership of the Institute has grown modestly in the past 12 months; it is our hope that as students completes their final exams more of them will register as members. We should encourage them to do so.

I take this opportunity to call on all members to commit themselves to serve the Institute as it strives to achieve its objectives, grow and develop the accountancy profession in the years ahead. Our Institute has a crucial role to play in the nation’s agenda for change and members should be seen to be actively pursuing the achievement of the goals of that agenda.

I wish you all a very happy anniversary.

Samuel A. Noldred

President
