The act of using fire to attack families in their homes in the west end of Freetown seemed to have become a normal practice by some evil people. On Saturday 19th May 2012, the family of Mr. Samuel Kashope Bart-Williams and Mrs. Victoria Rebecca Bart-Williams, residing on Collegiate School Road off Wilkinson Road in Freetown, were allegedly attacked by some unknown hooligans who set their house on fire.
Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday 22nd May 2012, Mr. Samuel Kashope Bart-Williams explained that, the night prior to the attack, he attended an all night Church service together with his wife, Mrs. Victoria Rebecca Bart-Williams. He said they were at the service, when he received a telephone call, informing him that their house has been set ablaze. At this point, he went on, they rushed home and also alerted the national fire force. Sadly enough for them, Mr. Bart-Williams furthered, by the time the fire fighters arrived at the scene, the whole ground floor of the house has been completely burnt down. He said properties worth millions of Leones including very important documents, were all destroyed by the fire.
Mr. Bart-Williams further told this reporter that, he suspected the act must have been done by some evil people whom according to him, he is in quarrel with over a piece of land at Joe Town in the east end of Freetown. He said the matter was in court and he has won it, adding that a demolition exercise on the land was scheduled for next Friday, few days after the attack.
Mr. Bart-Williams revealed that, he was reliably informed by neighbors that, the fire must have been thrown into the house through the windows, targeting him and his wife. He said it was fortunate that they had left for the Church service before the attackers came in.
The matter is currently under police investigations.
