National Census to start soon

Local tabloids say, Statistic Sierra Leone (SSL) are planning to conduct a Demographic Health survey (DHS) and National Population Census Survey in Sierra Leone. According to reports, the NPCS survey is a national project conducted every ten year to know the total population. The DHS survey is also conducted every five year to know the improvements being made in the health sector.


Marijuana Accused freed on Bail

It has been revealed that, 15 persons who were alleged of unlawfully possessing cannabos sativa recently got freed on bail. According to reports, the accused were arrested by police from a settlement known as Mile 13 village in the Kambia District and brought to Court in Freetown where they were arraigned. The matter was presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No.2

 

UBA Celebrates Africa Day

One of the leading commercial banks, the United Bank for Africa (UBA) over the weekend celebrated the Africa Day in Freetown. This day was set aside in 1963 and is always celebrated by the UBA as a day for the achievements of African People and businesses that have brought pride to the continent. Report say, UBA celebrates this day every year.


NATCOM Chairman donates to Magburaka Boys

Reports have disclosed that, the Chairman of the National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM), Mr. Siray Timbo recently donated the sum of Fifteen Million Leones to the Government Secondary School for Boys, Magburaka (aka Magburaka Boys). According to reports the donation was made during the 62nd Anniversary celebrations of the school in Magburaka, Tonkolili District. Mr. Timbo’s donation was made to ameliorate some of the problems facing the school.


Commercial Bike Rider beats wife to death

An alleged murderer, Saidu Sesay is a commercial bike rider, has reportedly made his first appearance before the Magistrate Court in Kenema to defend against charges he beat his wife to death. The incident took place at 7 Moisia Street in Kenema. The late wife allegedly went out and came late in the night which cause the husband to beat her.


Coca-Cola to construct Community Market at Dworzak

Sierra Leone Bottling Company (SLBC) Ltd (makers of Coca-Cola in Freetown) in collaboration with community members of Dworzak recently turned the sod for the construction of a market residents. The project is to fulfil SLBC’s corporate social responsibility to their host community. Acting Mayor of Freetown City Council, Gibrila Kanu reportedly informed that the construction is to complement Government’s efforts.  


Deep- Eye Water Gets Solar Water system

Reports have disclosed that a  small peninsular village, Deep Eye Water recently benefited from a Solar Water Supply System from the Sierra Leone Water Copany (SALWACO). According to the MP for the area, Hon. Raymond Jones, the said community has been without pipe borne water for decades. He lamented that many children and women used to suffer whilst fetching water from long distances.
