Presidential Assent on Public Elections Act 2012
The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone on 7th May 2012 gave presidential assent to the Public Elections Act 2012 Bill which was recently passed by Parliament on 1st May 2012. In this regard, the Commission is obliged to put into operations the legal provisions of the Public Elections Act 2012 in the conduct of all public elections in the Republic of Sierra Leone.
SLPP vs. NEC Court Case Ruling in Favour of NEC
The Commission informs the general public that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Sierra Leone gave its ruling on Friday 25th May 2012 in favour of the NEC in the court case between the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) vs. the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
Preparation for Exhibition, Enquiry & Distribution of Voter ID Cards
A team of institutional representatives completed a one-week observation of the BVR de-duplication process in Brussels, Belgium and has submitted a report to the Commission titled ‘Report on De-duplication Process of Biometric Voter Registration Database in Brussels, Belgium, from 22nd- 28th May, 2012’. The report has been accepted for public dissemination.
As a continuation to the BVR De-duplication analysis in Brussels, Belgium, the Commission will set up an Administrative Enquiry from 6th -10th June 2012 to verify individual cases of multiple registrations. The committee will consist Electoral Commissioners and Technical Experts and the process will be observed by Political Parties and observer groups.
The distribution of Voter ID Cards will take place from 30th June-20th July 2012. The Publication of Claims will take place from 9th July to 13th July 2012, the conduct of Enquiry will take place from 15th July to 16th July 2012 and finalization of all claims will take place from 26th July to 9 August 2012. The Exhibition process will be done simultaneously in all 2,998 voter registration turned exhibition centers nationwide.
