Madam Hawa Bangura (nee Massaquoi), the estranged wife of Mohamed Bangura, Leader and Chairman of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) has described Mohamed Bangura as a “very responsible father” who is “taking good care of his family”. She was speaking on Saturday June 30th 2012 to the widely listened MONOLOGUE radio programme in a reaction to a front page publication in a notorious local tabloid of last Friday June 29th 2012. That tabloid had alleged that Mohamed Bangura had “abandoned” his two children and was now wanted in Canada for “child support”. In sharp contrast, a matured sounding Hawa spoke of the devotion of Mohamed towards his children.
“Mohamed has supported his children throughout since the day they were born. He is taking good care of his family. He has always done. I have no problems with him and his responsibilities as a father. He is a very responsible father,” Hawa said.
The local tabloid had also showed on the front page what it claimed was a pictorial declaration of support for SLPP presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio, by Hawa, in which the UDM Leader’s very young daughter was displayed near Bio in a most unbecoming manner contrary to Media Code of Practise of the Independent Media Commission (IMC).
With much maturity in her voice, Hawa told MONOLOGUE that the entire publication was false. She strongly and most firmly debunked allegation of her support for Maada Bio.
“I did not declare for anybody at any time. It is a false statement. I vote in Canada and not in Sierra Leone so I will not declare for any political party in Sierra Leone,” Hawa stated.
“I am upset because a photograph of my daughter was published without my approval. My kids are too young to be used like this,” she complained.
The local tabloid in question has taken up a crusade to vilify any person it perceives as questioning the lapses in character of the SLPP presidential candidate Maada Bio. As a result, it has spared nothing to be extremely nasty and vicious in its pursuits.
When the editor was put on the air by Monologue as to why he displayed such insensitivity towards family of the UDM Leader, he went on a tirade of attacks with no connection as to why he was put on the air. Instead he told lies of Awareness Times which was not what he had been asked.
