ACC updates media and civil society in Makeni
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently updated media practitioners and civil society activists on its activities in the second quarter of 2012. Engaging media practitioners and civil society activists will help the ACC in fighting corruption in that part of the country.
Alleged murder conspirator refused bail
Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No.1 has ceased the bail of one Abibatu Kargbo who was alleged of conspiring with other persons unknown to murder one Sulaiman Mansaray in Freetown. The accused was charged on two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder. Particulars of offence say, on 24th April this year at 13 Corn-Hill, Wellington the accused conspired with persons unknown to commit the crime.
Prizes set for Vimto consumers
The Sierra Leone Bottling Company (SLBC) has revealed plans to come up with over thirty thousand prizes for customers who will be frequently consuming one of their products, Vimto UTC. The prizes ranges from motorbikes, bags of rice, vegetable oil, plasma TVs, transistor radios, Nokia mobile phones, to crates of free Vimto drinks, among others. The game is expected to be launched soon across the country.
ActionAid trains rural women
ActionAid Sierra Leone has concluded a two-day intensive training for 50 community rural women at Makump Bana in the Bombali Shebora Chiefdom, Bombali District. The women were trained in post harvest management, with funds from the United Nations. The training aimed at improving women’s livelihood for economic empowerment though rural business.
New deployments for traffic police officers
The traffic division of the Sierra Leone Police has revealed plans to soon deploy over one hundred traffic police officers to various new posts across the country. The officers have been trained in general duty, criminal investigation and community policing, among others. Officers whose names are on the list for transfer have been admonished by their superiors to maintain good standards whilst executing their duties.
