The 29 Memorial Foundation for Justice and Development, families of the twenty nine (29) victims of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) massacre including former Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police James Bambay Kamara and others in 1992 has on Wednesday 25th July 2012, commenced a public peaceful protest in Freetown. The protest takes the tune of assembling all the surviving family members of the victims under the Cotton Tree on Siaka Steven Street in the central part of Freetown, crying and chanting mourning songs.

In an exclusive interview with the Awareness Times, the Chief Executive Officer and President of the Foundation, Mr. Julius Bambay Kamara Jnr said, they had earlier on issued a twenty-one day ultimatum to the Government, calling on them to set up an enquiry on the death of their relatives. According to him, the ultimatum expired without any positive action from the government to honour their request.

This issue, Mr. Kamara noted, has been raised since years back when the now opposition, Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was in governance but that nothing was done to address their concerns .

He said as a way of calling on the attention of the international community to force the Sierra Leone Government to look into their demands, they have decided to commence the protest, which will last until something positive is done in terms of addressing their demands. Mr. Bambay Kamara further expressed frustration over the recent statement made by the current presidential candidate of the main opposition SLPP Mr. Julius Maada Bio in London, stating that the death of their relatives should be seen as a collective responsibility to which he was part of.

He reechoed the call for government to set up the enquiry so that they will know where their relatives were buried and  why they were brutally murdered without legal trial.
