One of the leading Telecommunications companies in Sierra Leone, Africell, on Friday 27th July 2012, paid the sum of twenty million leones cash to a secondary school pupil, Ishmael Bockarie at the company’s Headquarters in Freetown. Ishmael was the first grand prize luck winner of the company’s recently launched Ramadan promotion code named, ‘Africell Ramadan Hidden Treasure Hunt 2.’

Addressing over twenty winners at the presentation ceremony on Friday, Africell’s Administrative Director, Mr. Abdul Aziz Gabisi said, Africell is a company that acknowledges and respects all faith systems in Sierra Leone. He said in line with this principle, the company is pleased to join Muslims in the country and all over the world as they observe the Holy month of Ramadan.

According to Mr. Gabisi, in line with the company’s proud tradition of always introducing unrivalled innovative promotions that provide subscribers with the opportunity to observe their religious rights, play fun games and win fantastic prizes in the process, the company is pleased to formally announce the launch of its Ramadan promotion for 2012.

Dilating on the promotion, Mr. Gabisi said Africell subscribers are required to send blank text to 777 or call 777 at a cost of 10 units per text or call to automatically qualify for the daily draw. He said the company will give back 10 on-net units to subscribers for each call made or text sent. These on-net units, he went on, must however be utilized before 12 midnight of the same day it is received.

The company’s Administrative Director further explained that the show is held live on national television with simultaneous broadcast on major radio stations nationwide between 7:00pm and 8:00pm from Mondays to Saturdays.

He said qualifying numbers are randomly selected using a computer software, adding that upon selection of a number, the subscriber will be dialed and then prompted to choose a number between 1 and 40; the window with the chosen number will be opened to give the subscriber the following  4 alternatives, win Cash Prizes- ranging from Le50,000 to Le300,000, win 1,000 units-400 or 800 units airtime, chance to spin to the Wheel of Fortune-to win a TV, Generator, Fridge/Freezer or 400 or 800 units airtime and chance to go to the Genie for a Treasure Hunt-with a chance to win the Star Prize of Le20,000,000 or a consolation prize of Le200,000.

The promotion commenced on Friday 20th July and is expected to end on Monday 20th August 2012. Winners were reminded of the provisions of the Finance Act 2008 that all Lottery winnings Le500,000 and above are subject to 10% Lottery Tax. Hence, two million leones was therefore deducted from Ishmael’s money and paid as tax to the National Revenue Authority (NRA).

Eighty-three winners have so far emerged from the promotion and have won themselves brand new Plasma Televisions, Freezers/fridge, recharge card, and physical cash among other valuable prizes.

Receiving his money, Ishmael Bockarie thanked the company’s management and staff for transforming his life. He explained an ordeal of how he has struggled in life especially to gain education. However, he said with the winning, he can now boast of being a millionaire for life and will help other people to grow. He encouraged all and sundry to be part of the winning by playing the game.
