Traders along the Sani Abacha Street and other markets within Freetown have showered praises on His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Joseph Bandabla Dauda for making what they referred to as progressive move to regain Yenga from the people of the Republic of Guinea.
This was disclosed to the Awareness Times during an exclusive interview with the Chairlady of Sani Abacha Street Traders Association, Madam Jattu Conteh on Monday 30th July 2012 in Freetown. Madam Conteh went on that despite widespread rumors that Yenga has been sold to the people of Guinea, President Koroma did not relent but instead, worked tirelessly with his colleague President in the Republic of Guinea to put this issue to pass.
“Our President is not a joker, he does not make a promise and fail to accomplish it,” said Madam Conteh, adding; “he is a man of his words who does not know how to fake people”.
The Chairlady further noted that she listened to the repeat joint declaration meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Guinea and Sierra Leone through one of the country’s radio stations on Saturday adding that she felt elated when she heard the Spokesman of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Hon. Musa Tamba Sam thanking President Koroma and his Government for the venture to reclaim Yenga.
For her part, the Chairlady of the Garrison Street Traders association, Madam Fatu Conteh, who doubled as the Public Relations Officer for the Abacha Street Traders Association said, she was in Yenga when President Koroma assured the public that Yenga will soon return to Sierra Leone. She said the President has not failed in his promise to the people of this country to liberate Yenga. She further stated that Sierra Leoneans in Yenga have suffered a lot in the hands of Guineans in that part of the country and used the forum to thank President Koroma and his government for the wonderful move and hoped that the issue of Yenga will soon be laid to rest once and for all.
