His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on Sunday 29th July 2012 joined family members and thousands of mourners to bid their final farewell to the late Hon. Victor Chukuma Johnson in Waterloo, following a Church service at the St. Mark’s Countess of Huntingdon’s Connexion Cathedral in Waterloo.
Making his statement at the Civic Laying-Out Ceremony for the late Hon. Chukuma Johnson, President Koroma said that the late comrade Chukuma Johnson did not join the APC for material gains nor for power. He also stated that the APC is proud for the life of the late man, whilst noting that Hon. Chukuma Johnson invested his time, energy and resources for the success of the All People’s Congress.
He further said that Hon. Chukuma Johnson was an example of loyalty who maintained one of the core values of the APC by maintaining regular contacts with the grassroots of the APC, especially in his Constituency.
His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma paid glowing tribute to the late Deputy Chairman who he said was constantly in touch with the ordinary man and woman on the street. He likened the late Hon. Chukuma Johnson to the likes of Siaka Stevens, CA Kamara Taylor, SI Koroma who were all down to earth politicians.
The President recalled that Chukuma Johnson was always there for the party when he was most needed. He informed the bereaved family of how proud the party is for the life of Hon. Chukuma Johnson.
The Chairman and Leader of the APC also said that if comrades were going astray, it’s about time that they get back on track as the late man was a man of the ordinary man as well as a man who represented Unity and Loyalty. He wished the soul of the departed comrade rest in Perfect Peace.
First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma delivered the Gospel according to Matthew 5: 1-12 at the Funeral Service of the late Hon. Chukuma Johnson.
For his part, Hon. Alimamy Kamara giving his tribute for the late comrade Hon. Chukuma Johnson, described him as a youth in spite of definitions of who a youth is.
Hon. Chukuma Johnson, Hon. Alimamy Kamara said, was not one of those politicians who didn’t think like this. He also maintained that the late Chukuma Johnson was not tribalistic, greedy and very jovial.
“He was a man of principles who did fight for power for the sake of power but to unify the APC” said Hon. Alimamy Kamara.
He called on all comrades to join ranks at trying times like this and also uphold the values and principles which Hon. Chukuma Johnson stood for.
