The only woman aspiring for chairman symbol for the Kailahun District Council under the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Mrs. Navo Kaikai, has called on members of the party to demonstrate maturity.
Mrs. Kaikai made this call following negative comments made by some senior members of the party regarding her ability to contest the chairmanship election in November 17, 2012. In an exclusive interview with the Awareness Times on Saturday 28th July 2012 at her Regent Road Lumley residence in Freetown, the other grave concern she raised was the accusation by some SLPP members that she is a member of the ruling All Peoples Congress Party. She confirmed that she might be related to some members of the APC but that has nothing to do with her loyalty to the SLPP.

Mrs. Kaikai further used the forum to remind SLPP members that despite she was denied the party symbol in previous elections, that did not give her cause to undermine or defect from the party.
She called on those members of the party who have narrow ideas about her to think rationally and allow her to contest the election .
She said Kailahun needs a ‘people centered chairman’, a chairman who works with them, a chairman who understands their problems and respond to them appropriately.
Mrs. Navo Kaikai boasted that she is already enjoying the support of the people of Kailahun, adding that the people know that she is a committed member of the SLPP that has served as District Treasurer of the party for five years ,mobilized funds to promote the party in securing an office in the district and above all, participated in several by-elections for the party. She said she recently refurbished the party office in Kailahun, whilst citing her contributions during the 2007 elections, by providing mobility and election equipment for the party to easily campaign in the district and elsewhere.
She called on SLPP members to note that she has her integrity to protect and will not sell it for anything assuring that no matter what happens, she is SLPP and will always be SLPP.
