PRESS RELEASE
The attention of the Ministry of Defense and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces MoD/RSLAF has been drawn to press release issued by the Independent Media Commission and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists over the alleged conduct of RSLAF personnel against two journalists- Mr. Poindexter Samai and Mr. Alie Turay of the Awoko Newspaper.
The MoD/RSLAF unequivocally condemns this unfortunate incident as it has the tendency to undermine the existing cordial relationship between the press and the Ministry of Defense. We further restate our respect for the constitution, particularly Section 25 which fundamentally guarantees freedom of speech and expression.
In the face of this, we want to assure you that the matter will be investigated and necessary disciplinary action will be taken against any culprit.
Whilst we continue to measure our successes in our external engagements in promoting global peace and security, the MoD/RSLAF is also in harmony with the facts of its corporate objective of “Serving the Nation”.
