The Deputy Chairman of the Kenema District Council, Mohamed Luseni Sheriff representing the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and his wife, Esther Sheriff have been convicted to serve nine (9) months imprisonment at the Kenema State Prisons or pay an alternative fine of one million, five hundred thousand leones each by the presiding Acting Principal Magistrate, Mohamed Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens of the Magistrate Court in Kenema.
The accused were charged on three count charges of Disorderly Behavior.
According to the particulars of offence, the two accused persons on 28th July, 2012 at the Family Support Unit (FSU) in Kenema Police Station, behaved disorderly, obstructed and assaulted Detective Woman Police Constable (DWPC) 9025 Isata Brown Nyuma whilst executing her lawful duty.
The deputy chairman and wife pleaded guilty on count one and two but pleaded not guilty on count three. In their first appearance before the court on Friday 10th August 2012, the Magistrate refused them bail and were remanded in prison despite appeal by their counsel to grant them bail.
Delivering his verdict, the Magistrate found the two accused persons guilty of all three count charges. The Court has also ordered the two convicts to compensate their victim, Isata Nyuma in the sum of one million leones (Le1m) which is to be paid on Friday, 17th August, 2012.
The matter was prosecuted by ASP Sahr Didi Lahai of the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Kenema Police Station, whilst the two accused persons were represented by defense counsel, Alex J. Bonafa.
In another development, one Sarah Monya made her last appearance in court before Magistrate Mohamed Alhaji Momoh-Jah in Kenema for the offence of double voter registration. The accused on the 20th March, 2012 at the voter registration centre No. 020044 in Ward 031 in Kenema, knowingly sought and registered as an eligible voter more than once in the same ward.
She pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for mercy. The Magistrate sentenced her to two years imprisonment or she pay a fine of Le500,000). ASP Sahr Didi Lahai prosecuted the matter.
Still in Kenema, former SLPP stalwart Moijue Gbetuwa Gbos-Gbos has accused SLPP of attacking him at Tondola junction on the way to bury one I.K. Foday. He says SLPP paper then wrote he was attacked by APC.
