As part of its social responsibility to strengthen the rights and voices of Civil Society Organizations (CSO), the internationally backed NGO known as ENCISS has on Thursday 16th August 2012 launched the Third “Call for Grant proposals” for micro project proposals which aimed at improving the implementation of a culture of accountability in the country. The ceremony took place at the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) conference room at Kingharman Road in Freetown.Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Alpha Sankoh said ENCISS is awarding grants to help organizations to improve accountability and strengthen citizens’ participation in decision making. He maintained that ENCISS is poised to improve skills and capacity of CSOs so as to achieve effective monitoring of programmes as well as improve on their advocacy skills especially in areas like Gender Equality.
According to Mr Sankoh, Enciss is creating an enabling environment for CSOs to assist the government in decision making process. He revealed that Enciss currently partners with Christian Aid, DFID, Government projects and other well meaning organizations.Gracing the ceremony were representatives from DFID, Freetown City Council (FCC), Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Political affairs, Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) and other large and small NGOs. They expressed appreciation to Enciss for its efforts which they described as worthy contributions to the country’s development.
The program was then launched by Peter Beckley, Communications Manager of Enciss.
