The records of leading presidential candidates on ensuring the country’s capital city is kept clean are distinctly different. H.E. President Ernest Bai Koroma has failed to ensure Freetown is kept sanitised & clean under his watch.

Argument might be proferred that the Koroma Central Government has devolved cleaning of the city to the Freetown City Council. However, it should be realised that Koroma is the National Leader of the ruling APC seeking re-election of an APC Mayor & APC Councillors who for now make up bulk of Freetown City Council. APC has failed in ensuring our capital city is kept clean.

As a result of such poor sanitation, it can be easily argued that the Cholera Outbreak might not have been so bad if the city was clean.

In sharp contrast, two of president’s main challengers Julius Maada Bio and Eldred Collins can sport that they were a part of the Captain Valentine Strasser NPRC and Major Johnny Paul Koroma’s AFRC respective military juntas which effectively kept the capital city clean and relatively sanitised during the AFRC and NPRC regimes.

The current state of the capital city is just FILTHY. Even the back of the President’s Office at State Avenue between State House and Law Courts’ Office of Honourable Chief Justice is proudly displaying a ‘tourist attraction’ of dead, rottening & rabid dogs amidst human faeces and disgusting garbage strewn without any dumpster nearby.

In terms of cleaning city of filth, AFRC/RUF Eldred Collins and NPRC Maada Bio have better records than the Koroma led APC.
