The Acting Chairman of Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Komba Koedoyoma has tabled in Parliament three Performance Audit Reports from Audit Service Sierra Leone(ASSL) on Tuesday 18th September, 2012.

Presenting the documents in Parliament, Hon. Koedoyoma said that he was pleased to lay before the House of Parliament three Performance Audit Reports on the following institutions: Performance Audit Report on the Supply of potable water by SALWACO; Performance Audit Report on the Examination and Monitoring of Vehicles by SLRTA and Performance Audit Report on Generation and Collection of Revenue in the Fisheries Sector.

According to the Executive Summary of the Report on Supply of potable water, the objective of the report was to assess the extent to which SALWACO has contributed to improved water supply services in their specified areas of operation. The Audit focused on three key issues: Sourcing, Treatment and Distribution of Water.

Taking a closer look at the Report on Fisheries, it states that the audit was motivated by the fact that the country loses approximately $30 Million due to illegal fishing. This has stimulated concerns that the county is losing out on revenue and motivated the Performance Audit on the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

According to Mr Martin Sandy, Information, Education and Communications Officer of Audit Service, the Performance Audit Report on the Examination and Monitoring of Vehicles by SLRTA was done as a result of the persistent increase in the number of accidents in the country. He pointed out that Performance Auditors from ASSL visited SLRTA’s Examination centres to obtain relevant data and information on the operations of SLRTA in relation to the Examination and Monitoring of Vehicles.

Mr Sandy further said that the submission and tabling of three Reports from ASSL indicated clearly that as the Supreme Audit Institution of Sierra Leone, ASSL is a respected, agile, merit-based and ethically transparent institution dedicated to assuring the productive stewardship of the investments of taxpayers and other stakeholders; and the safeguarding of the citizens’ interests in the public sector. He also added that five Performance Audit Reports had already been submitted and tabled in Parliament this year.
