Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Sanitation Miss Miatta Kargbo has appeared in Parliament yesterday June 17th 2014 to speak on the Ebola menace now ravaging Kailahun district and posing a threat to Sierra Leone. Whilst she appeared with many facts to defend her ministry, the minister went on to shock many by describing two of her deceased staff with promiscuous references of illicit, extra-marital sexual affairs. As citizens listened in horror, she openly identified the male staff by name and went on to say the female staff died because she was in a sexual relationship with the male staff. However, her claims were to be swiftly debunked by the elected parliamentarian for Daru.
Meanwhile, this newspaper has the full length audio recording of the May 26th Emergency press conference where Health Minister Miatta Kargbo damned Sierra Leone’s dead Ebola patients as causing their own deaths by not obeying government orders not to cross into Guinea. Yesterday, the minister went on to repeat the same condemnation of the dead but this time, she was blaming her own ministry staff as she insulted and slurred the memory of one of the ministry’s State Enrolled Community Health Nurse (SECHN) who died from Ebola in Daru. According to the minister, the SECHN did not die because of lack of protective clothing but because she caught the Ebola through sex by being in a ‘boyfriend-girlfriend’ love affair with an infected male Community Health Officer with whom she used to sleep in a room.

What made the mockery of the deceased nurse to be quite ironical was the dress code which the minister herself wore to appear in front of the elected people’s representatives. As she was busy denigrating the sexual lifestyle of the deceased nurse, the minister was standing to some extent, blatantly half naked in front of MPs with a sleeveless outfit that was seductively cut to expose deep into her bosom displaying her breasts. Worse of all, the material of the outfit was such that even the two nipples of the minister’s breasts were pointing out sharply in a very seductive manner akin to that of promiscuous women.
A whole Government Minister of Health, half-dressed in seductive, sleeveless attire and breast parts left with little to imagine in a manner most unbefitting her ministerial status, stood in front of elected parliamentarians to publicly say a deceased nurse who died of Ebola did not die for lack of protective clothing but because the dead nurse had been in a love affair with another infected male health worker who transmitted the virus through their love relationship.

Many told Awareness Times that it was pathetic to listen to the Cabinet Minister as she went on to even name the dead male staff and identify him as having been used to sexual relationship with the dead nurse thus causing the death from sexual relationship Ebola infection.
“Mr. Speaker, the SECHN who was also a nurse in that Daru facility was the girlfriend of Mr. Kallon, the Community Health Officer who caught the infection from the urine which splashed on him. The SECHN who died was his girlfriend. They stayed in the same house and throughout the process when he was infected, they were sleeping together in the same room as boyfriend and girlfriend; most definitely, most definitely” the minister stated to a shocked listeners.

Thankfully, Hon. Moiwa Momoh of Constituency 06 (Daru) where the late nurse fell ill with Ebola, was able to debunk the Minister’s insensitive attack on the dead nurse as being totally untrue. Visibly angered but trying to keep his calm, Hon. Momoh said it was unacceptable and untrue for the minister to ridicule the deceased nurse as “dying because of love affairs”. Rather, he said the late SECHN nurse died because she was one of those who worked at the Daru Health Center and had helped in trying to treat the Ebola patient, Messie Konneh.
Hon. Momoh said he wanted “to state clearly to the female minister” that she was wrong.
Hon. Momoh then went on to damn her claims and said in addition to all the lapses of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in handling the Ebola catastrophe, for the female government minister “to relate that particular death of the CHO and that of the SECHN to love relationship is even so very wrong”.
He further informed the house that he had personally investigated those deaths himself as the honourable parliamentarian for the constituency in question.
He said, according to the facts in his possession, “It is always quite clear and evident that one health officer cannot treat a patient alone even for children patients” so he said when the Ebola infected Messie Konneh was brought to the Daru health facility, “they all assisted”.
“They all assisted the Ebola patient by giving her the treatment. So it was at the treatment center that the SECHN nurse got infected and nothing like having love relationship!” Hon. Moiwa ended his condemnation of the minister.
Many observers at the Parliament building openly condemned the minister’s insensitive attack on the sexual lifestyle of the poor deceased nurse thus slurring her memory.
Many also expressed dismay at the lack of finesse which saw the minister turn up in parliament, barely dressed with much of her body parts exposed. Many opined that with the kind of apparel she decided to wear to face parliament, she could have been easily mistaken for any of the prostitutes along Lumley Beach.
“Look at how she is dressed and yet she wants to defame the memory of the poor dead nurse in Daru as a promiscuous woman? Who is more promiscuous? The minister or the poor dead nurse?” asked Mrs. Amie Karimu, one of the several Kailahun indigenes who attended the hearing.
