The winner of Miss Sierra Leone 2014 which was held on the 16th of June 2014 at the Bintumani International Conference Centre, Miss Margarette Murray has in an interview with this medium revealed that her platform is to cater for children that have been orphaned due to the Ebola outbreak, the street and less privileged children.
She said her goal is to provide food stuff, medication, education and other basic living amenities for children that have been orphaned due to the Ebola outbreak, street and less privileged children, as they are the future leaders. She said if we neglect them now our future is bleak.
She said she has visited all the slum areas, remand homes and temporary care centres were they are kept to get first hand information and devise strategies of addressing another key problem which is psychological torture.
The beauty queen informed that she is working with the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs to get a clear statistical data of all Ebola orphans nationwide which, according to her estimation is more than 500.
“I am however challenged with the slow pace of gathering support as many stakeholders and institutions who promised to assist defer their assistance due to personal reasons” she stated.
She appealed for speedy assistance as she is doing it for the development and progress of the country. She appealed to well meaning Sierra Leoneans, Ministries, Departments and Agencies to support her project in catering for the Country’s future leaders, as she put it “I still need support be it financial or otherwise.”
Miss Margarette Murray revealed that she intends doing her first set of donations to all the regions in the country by the first week of December, after which she will be leaving for Nigeria to represent Sierra Leone at the Miss West Africa International 2014, schedule for the 21th December this year. She maintained that preparations are underway as she has secured some of her dresses for the event and called on all Sierra Leoneans to remember her in prayer as she represents the Green, White and Blue flag while expressing confidence that she will come home with the crown.
