The Sierra Leone Police has appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police Brima Kamara as Head of Media and Website, to take forwards the SLP’s enhanced drive to expand its media reach and credibility. ASP Kamara was previously Head of Website with responsibility for the SLP website, www.slp.gov.sl which has proven to be a very useful and functional communications tool for the SLP. The website was a medium for relaying information to SLP personnel across the world especially those on assignments abroad or on peace keeping missions. He has also been instrumental in the web content development, ensuring a rich menu of news views and briefings relating to the functioning of the Sierra Leone Police to be available online.

Speaking at the regular Executive Management Meeting held at Kingtom on Wednesday 9th September 2015, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Richard Moigbe congratulated the new Head of Media and Website on his appointment and commended him for taking up his responsibilities with such vigor. He noted that ASP Kamara’s attendance at EMB was to accord the Media Unit with access to those strategic information that could be interpreted as news and public information on police operations so that transparency and robustness of strategic decision making is enhanced within the force. Assistant Inspector General of Police and Director of Human Resources based at Police Headquarters, Mrs. Gloria Tarawally also commended ASP Kamara for his attention to detail on media matters while expressing the hope that his tenure of office would herald a new dawn in police reporting and the profiling of the SLP as a credible institution.

ASP Brima Kamara joined the Force in August 1990. He has worked in various police formations and divisions such as Harbour, Congo Cross and Kissy Divisions as Investigator; Legal and Justice Support as senior prosecutor, and at the Special Branch as Intelligence Officer. He was assigned as trainer at the Police Training School for eight years, during which time, he served as Staff Secretary, Staff Officer, Assistant Chief Trainer, Chief Training and Course Development Officer, Officer Commanding Hastings Police Practicing Station and Deputy Commandant.

He brings to the new office experience from peacekeeping operations as he has served in the United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) as Officer in Charge of the Police Public Information Unit. Mr. Kamara holds a Higher Teachers’ Certificate and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Mass Communication.
