The first UNICEF Country Representative to Sierra Leone (1985-1990), Madam Jaehee Kim and her team today called on the Hon. Vice President of Sierra Leone, Ambassador Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh at his Tower Hill office.
The team which comprises Bruce Kennedy, who served as Deputy UNICEF Programme Coordinator (1986-1991), is in the country on the invitation of FOCUS 1000.
We may recall that it was during the tenure of Madam Jaehee Kim as Country Rep, that Sierra Leone gained the Universal Child Immunisation (UCI) status. During her reign, Sierra Leone's immunisation rose from 4% to 75%, which is today the base for the country's Mortality & Child Health Care Programme.
Introducing the guests to the Hon. VP, the Director of Programmes - FOCUS 1000, Dr. Abu Pratt informed that it is on the structures of Madam Kim and Bruce Kennedy that they as an Organisation are doing all what they do today. He went further to state that the objective of the programme, which was 75%, was achieved through resource & social mobilisation, advocacy and monitoring evaluation.
He informed the Hon. VP that the team is in the country to see the impact of their achievements.
Vice President Foh on behalf of the government welcome them to Sierra Leone. He congratulated them on their achievements and admonished them to continue being of help to the country as the health care programme is still faced with challenges.
