The Managing Editor of the Future Newspaper, Mr. Moisa Kekura has in his publication of Wednesday 9th March, 2016 apologised and retracted their offensive statements made against Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, the Chairman of Board of Sierra Leone Maritime Association (SLMA) and Mr. Wurror Jalloh, Executive Director of SLMA.
Mr. Kekura was summoned at the High Court for him to pay punitive damages to Lansana Dumbuya Esq. over alleged libel contained in a published and distributed article found in 1st March, 2016 edition of Future Newspaper with a title of: “MARITIME BOSS CONDONES CORRUPTION”.
In response to the Writ of Summons dated 3rd March, 2016 taken out at the High Court of Sierra Leone by Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya for the Managing Editor of the Future Newspaper, Mr. Moisa Kekura to pay for defamation, the latter has swiftly published a retraction and an apology to Lawyer Dumbuya on the front page of his March 9th 2016 edition.
Future Newspaper has now apologised and formally retracted all the untrue statements it had made against Messrs Lansana Dumbuya and Mr. Jalloh.
The plaintiff, Lansana Dumbuya Esq. had claimed libel because he feels the said publication lowers his reputation and integrity in the face of right thinking members of the public.
Dumbuya had thus requested for the Court to award punitive damages and order a retraction and apology.
Sensing the gravity of his misdeed, the managing editor decided to apologise and retract swiftly without even waiting for the court case to start.
There has been no reaction yet from the esteemed and highly respected Lansana Dumbuya Esq. as to whether he will still want financial punitive damages to be awarded to him.
