Port Loko Mar. 14, 016 (MOHS) - The driver Josie Lappia attached to the Endemic Disease Control (EDC) Unit in Bo has appeared at the Masiaka Magistrate Court, Port Loko district charged with the offence of using government Ambulance with registration number AJV 662 other than its registered purpose.
The accused on Wednesday March 9, 2016 was apprehended along the Masiaka-Bo highway for misuse of the Ambulance for commercial purpose.
He was charged under Section 51 of the Road Traffic Regulation of 1964.
Presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura, the accused having heard the offence pleaded guilty and asked for mercy.
Prosecuted by Inspector Francis David Bangura of the Sierra Leone Police, the accused was re-detained, and case adjourned to Friday March 18, 2016.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday March 9, 2016, the accused Josie Lappia was caught along the Masiaka-Bo highway carrying passengers and goods onboard the Ambulance by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah who immediately alerted the Masiaka Police for his arrest.
This is the second time the Minister has apprehended drivers for the misuse of ambulance. The first was intercepted carrying charcoal.
