The cabinet reshuffle on Sunday 13th March, 2016 has set a new landmark for female cabinet representation in Sierra Leone. A total of eleven (11) female ministers are now poised to help achieve President Koroma’s dream for a prosperous Sierra Leone. Nine (9) reshuffled or newly named women will now join Hon. Minister Isata Kabia and Hon. Minister Marie Jalloh as government ministers.
Hon. Kabia is Minister of State 2 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation whilst Hon. Jalloh is Deputy Minister 2 of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry & Food Security. They are both now joined by 9 other women appointed or reshuffled to new ministerial positions.
This huge total number of eleven women is unprecedented and has since been a welcomed news for women across the country.
Starting from Mrs. Maude Peacock, Head of the Sierra Leone umbrella women’s body Women’s Forum, right down the line to ordinary women traders in the central business part of the capital city, they are all ecstatic over eleven women ministers in Sierra Leone.
The joy of female traders was manifested during the unannounced visit earlier this week of the newly named Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden to environs of PZ Roundabout, Abacha Street and Salad Ground Market.
