PUBLIC STATEMENT- MINISTRY OF SOCIAL WELFARE, GENDER AND CHILDREN’S AFFAIRS
Attention has been drawn to recent publications in various media outfits of allegations of corrupt practices in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs. The Ministry wishes the general public to know that the allegations are not only malicious, but a deliberate and calculated attempt by some unpatriotic Sierra Leoneans to derail the progress the Ministry is making, and to also undermine the Government of His Excellency the President. The Ministry, like any other MDA, has responsibility to the citizenry, which inter alia requires it to deliver on its mandate that directly impact the lives of the people of Sierra Leone, especially the vulnerable categories.
In addition to its traditional and regular programmes, the Ministry is one of the four key Ministries with huge responsibilities for the Post Ebola Recovery Plan and Strategy, with programmes and activities that are time bound.
Whilst the Ministry is waiting for the arrival of Dr. Sylvia O. Blyden, and Madam Rugiatu N. Turay, as Minister, and Deputy Minister respectively, the business of Government is still on course in the Ministry. It is therefore unfortunate for anyone to think that staff should abandon the entire Ministry, and in the process abdicate their various responsibilities.
The public is finally informed that many doors are open to anyone wishing to constructively engage the Ministry on the following topical issues.
(i) Implementations of projects/programmes/activities following the departure of Alhaji Moijue Kaikai, and Mr. Mustapha Bai Attilla;
(ii) Ministry’s fleet of vehicles and boarding of derelict/unserviceable vehicles;
(iii) Movement of food and non-food items from the National Stadium to other destinations;
(iv) Inclusion of names of staffs Radio Democracy, F.M. 98.1 into the Delegates lists for the Commission on the Status of Women, in New York- 14th to 24th March 2016.
In conclusion, the entire staff wants to take the opportunity to congratulate the two Ministers on their appointments, whilst at the same time assuring them, and the Government as a whole of their supports and cooperation at all times.
