As Wednesday 8th February 2017 marked a historic moment in the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), due to the fact that there was a peace meeting between all the aspirants for the flagbearship of the party, staunch supporters of the SLPP now believe that their party is in a very good position to win the 2018 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections.

Majority of the supporters believe that the peace in the SLPP has sent shockwave down the spine of the governing All Peoples Congress (APC) and all other political parties in the country.

ADP Leader: Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray

Responding to this and more in a telephone interview with Awareness Times Newspaper, the National Secretary General of the APC, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh said “the so-called peace in the SLPP is not binding because they have a lot of people in the SLPP who cannot see eye to eye and so we are not jittery at all”. Commenting on the chanting of the SLPP supporters on Wednesday 8th February 2017 in which they were saying “back to State House,” Ambassador Yansaneh said "SLPP will only go to State House as usual under their rightful position as opposition.  State House is for everybody and the SLPP is no exception.

We will invite them during the inauguration,” he said.

On the allegation that the impasse in the APC will surpass that of the SLPP, the APC scribe slammed that they have structures in the APC and they will go into convention as one APC and will also come out with one voice and one candidate whom they will all support to continue the developmental strides of their Leader and Chairman, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

He however expressed delight and gratitude for the peace in SLPP. “We are happy for the peace in SLPP because we need a strong and sober opposition,” Osman Foday Yansaneh ended.

In similar position, Awareness Times Newspaper also spoke to the Leader and Chairman of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray who during a phone call interview maintained that they as a party are happy for the peace in SLPP than what others think. “The unity in the SLPP is a step in the right direction. For the progress of our democracy, I am happy for such a move in the SLPP,” he noted. Kamarainba however maintained that he is not shocked, surprised neither jittery over the peace process in the SLPP. “I played my part in the peace process by engaging stakeholders in the party,” he maintained. Furthermore, Mohamed K. Mansaray said he is confident that he will be the next president of Sierra Leone come 2018. “The people are tired of both APC and SLPP as they have both failed them so they must go,” Kamarainba slammed.
