Following the wide spread social media video clips of alleged plastic rice imported by EMKAY STORES of 12 Sani Abacha street, this reporter investigated the scandal and file in this report. In early January this year there were rumors making news in the country that there is plastic rice in the markets imported by EMKEY STORES. According to Manoj Rajwani the General Manager of the business the allegation is false, baseless and bias.Infact the alleged rice is not imported from Indian and not from China as claimed by the rumors, he also stated that the company has been importing this rice from Indian for the past three years. He furthered that it is the consumers of the rice that have been telling them to import the rice as it is good and they like it.
He stated that the company had been in the business of food items for over thirty years and had never encountered such problem, but believes perhaps it may the work of detractors or other competitors who think our business is doing well than theirs. Standard Bureau had also certified that the rice is good for human consumption after conducting series of test on it.
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation Food Safety Unit also certified that the rice is good for human consumption as it has passed it test that was jointly conducted with the chemistry laboratory of Fourah Bay College.
