Justice Berbatunde Edwards of the Freetown High Court has on Wednesday February 15th 2017, at a well attended Court sittings, in his ruling has turned down the petition case of the plaintiffs ,Alusine Bangura ,Alex Kargbo and Victor Sheriff who claimed that the process and procedures used by the defendants Chief Sumano Kapen , Ambassador Alie Badara ,Honourable Suluku , Hon. Manso Dumbuya ,Dr Abass Bundu and Honourable Tundoneh in the conducts of the lower level elections of November 26th 2016 were unfair and that the court should grant an injunction that would prevent the defendants from holding the SLPP forth coming party convention.
Justice Berbatunde Edwards in his ruling said that based upon the evidence in the matter has ordered that eleventh of the orders which the plaintiffs are seeking for in the court are refused with no cost to be paid to either parties.
In an exclusive interview with Lawyer Banja Tejan Sie who represents the plaintiffs in the matter, he said to the press that the ruling of the Judge depicts a sad day for Justice and democracy in the country. He added that there is need for politicians to wake up. He went further that five to ten years now, the judiciary has failed to do what they suppose to do. He added that he is not satisfied with the ruling. “We are going to appeal,’’ said Lawyer Banja Tejan-Sie.
However, the lawyer representing the defendants Umaru Napoleon Koroma said that the ruling is a victory for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party. He added that the ruling is a continuation of the recent concluded peace process in the SLPP party.
