Lake production,a registered entertainment company in Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs have disclosed to news men on Tuesday 14th February, 2017 in a joint press briefing at the MTCA Conference Room, Off King Harman Road in Freetown that they will hold the first Sierra Leone Entertainment Awards. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 29th April, 2017 at the Bintumani International Conference Centre, Aberdeen Freetown.
Speaking at the briefing, the CEO of Lake Production, Alhaji K Tarawally stated that the Entertainment Industry is one of the biggest emerging business in the world. He noted that the Nigerian government is making billions of Naira from the Entertainment Industry, not to take of USA and India.
The essence of this award ceremony he said is to reward deserving Sierra Leonean in the Entertainment sector. He furthered that they have carefully selected 41 categories from the Music, Sports, Fashion, Comedy, Tourism and Cultural Heritage. “The event aim at promoting the image and rich culture of Sierra Leone, using entertainment” he maintained.
He however expressed his gratitude to President Koroma for appointing Honourable SidieYayah Tunis as the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. He thanked again the Minister of Tourism for being supportive for this first of it kind event in the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone.
Laj Kay, as he is popularly call said this Awards Ceremony will be colourfully script and documented and it can be of the same standard with the Grammy, BET and Kora.
Alhaji K. Tarawally explained that nominations for stakeholders will starts on Wednesday, 15th February and end 1st March, 2017. “Only four nominations per movie production house, record label, media institution, notable promotional group or an entertainment vetran will be register in each of the categories. The acts with the highest nomination will make it in the final list of NEA Award Panel before public voting or the official launching of the final list of nominees for the 2017 NEA awards” he noted.
In his brief statement, the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, SidieYayah Tunis assured the press and the public of a free, fair, transparent and credible award ceremony. He said that the National Entertainment Award is gears towards recognising the contributions of our indigenous and international Music, Film, Comedy, Sport Stars and all those who have contributed towards the development of entertainment in Sierra Leone. He noted that entertainment is very important across the world “In most countries across the world, those in the entertainment be it sports, music to name a few are the highest paid in the world. You have people in the movie industry in the United States who make fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) in a single movie” he said.
Meanwhile, statements were made by the President of All Stars, Milton Coker, Secretary General of the Sports Writers Association, Sahr Moris Junior, Desmond Finneh, Sierra Leone Jambore CEO, Mohamed Muntala, who all on behalf of the organizations pledged their corporation and support towards the event.
