The Airtel Chief Technical Officer Aritisde Sanon said they are renewing their equipments in order to improve the network system beyond Sierra Leone especially internet system. He made this statement to the information and communication oversight committee in parliament on Wednesday 15th February 2017 at the administrative building in parliament.
He added that Airtel is the fastest and cheapest telecommunication network in Sierra Leone for now, and disclosed that Orange has taken over Airtel Sierra Leone since 18th July 2016 and due to negotiations that are ongoing for acquisition, many investments were delay.
He furthered that new datacenter include core nodes renewal had already completed and migration will be done very soon.
He explained that upgrading of the network equipments that is, generators, batteries, base station, transmission and many others is ongoing.
He informed that their target is to reach international standard in terms of network quality, increase network coverage, improve customer experience and improve network operation.He further stated that the network modernization and expansion plan cost them $33m to renew most of their power equipments.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information, Hon. Binneh Bangura said they are not in parliament to witch hunt anybody in any Ministry, Department and Agencies (MDAs) but to perform their constitutional obligation as the people’s representative. He said they want to see good and quality service delivery for their citizens.
He further stated that they have been doing well for the past years, and now that Orange has taken over, they are expecting quality service also.
