The President of SOS Hermann Gmeiner International Children’s Village which spreads across 134 countries across in the world, Dr. Siddhartha Kaul has on Thursday, 16th February, 2017 officially launched the SOS Hermann Gmeiner International College and Technical Vocational Institute at SOS Village, Goderich Community, Western Rural District, Freetown.
In his opening and welcome address, the Principal of the College, a veteran journalist, Mr. Emmanuel JM Stanford welcome the SOS President, Dr. Siddhartha Kaul and entourage, who are in West Africa for the first time. He saluted the headman of Goderich community and his people for their reception to SOS Hermann Gmeiner International over the years.
Mr. Stanford explained the significance of the college to the Goderich Community and called on residents of Goderich to seize this opportunity in building their capacity for a brighter future. He further disclosed that the SOS Hermann Gmeiner International College and Technical Vocational Institute offers the following courses; Accounting and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Purchasing & Stores, Management, Public Health, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Banking & Finance, Procurement, Hotel & Tourism Management, Community Development Studies, Theatre Art, Entertainment and Ethic Business Administration, Social Work to name a few,at Certificate, Diploma, HND with possible progression to BSc, BA, MSc, MA in any Western University.
The Technical Vocational Institute offers also courses in Catering, Computer Studies, Entertainment Studies (Movie & Music Production), Secretariat Studies, Tailoring & Dressing Making, Art & Craft (Gara& Batik Production), Welding, Electrical & Electronic Installation, Hair Dressing etc. In his brief and salient statement, the President of SOS Hermann Gmeiner International, Dr. Siddhartha Kaul, thanked the Goderich Community people for their hospitality to the SOS village that has been in Sierra Leone for more than three decades. Dr. Kaul however maintained that their organization is concern about young people around the world. He said they have made it possible for young people to find jobs so that they can make it in their own country and will not run away from their own country in search of job. For them he continued, they don’t have to follow the Indians, Chinese, Germans, Pakistanis but you can be a Sierra Leonean and made it here.
Dr. Kaul said “we are not here to help the government of Sierra Leone. I want to be very honest with you, you must do your job. The government must care about his own people. We are just doing a small part in helping your people, the greater part should be done by you” he ended that they are not philanthropists, but they are just friends and partners with people. Dr. Kaul called on students to seize this opportunity in due diligence and make good use of it.
In addition, Dr. Adonis Abboud pledged to donate a satellite dish to the college as he has done to many learning institutions across the country.
Statements were also made by Goderich Community Headman, Parliamentary Educational Oversight Committee Chairman, Hon. Amani Sannoh, the host MP, Hon. Kallon for constituency 93 and many more.
A conducted tour in to the College Campus after the cutting of the ribbon by Dr. Siddhartha Kaul was led by the College’s Principal, Mr. Emmanuel JM Stanford in to the various departments and a fish porn.
