National Secretary General for the ruling All Peoples Congress(APC) Party, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh has said the resignation of President Koroma’s Special Adviser, Ambassador Dr. Alpha Khan, from State House is at the moment not over any bid to clinch the APC Presidential ticket in the coming 2018 Presidential Elections.
Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, was reacting to questions yesterday 27th February 2017, during an exclusive interview with Awareness Times Newspaper about rumours surrounding the resignation of Ambassador Dr. Alpha Kahn. The rumours say Hon. Alpha Khan resigned because he wants to succeed President Koroma, who is now completing his final term in office.
Against this backdrop, Ambassador Yansaneh clarifies that nowhere in the resignation letter or official press release does it say that a succession bid is behind his resignation. Yansaneh reminds that Hon. Alpha Kahn is still the official APC National Publicity Secretary so the reference to “impending political situations” as reason for resignation, could be because Hon. Kahn wants to focus on his role as Publicity Secretary of the Ruling APC Party or, according to Yansaneh, “better still, it could be because of health reasons.”
Ambassador Yansaneh vehemently stated that Ambassador Dr. Alpha Kahn has never disclosed to the APC hierarchy of any intention to run for its Presidential ticket. He said, therefore the APC hierarchy will not be in a haste to conclude that Ambassador Kahn wants to run for the APC Presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, all efforts by Awareness Time Newspaper to get Ambassador Kahn to clear the air, has proven to be fruitless. When the rumour first broke over the weekend, this writer personally contacted Hon. Alpha Kanu on Sunday evening past through his phone line but the honourable gentleman by then had refused to confirm as to him planning any form of resigning.
However, the resignation of President Koroma’s Special Adviser has now been confirmed by State House, in a release dated Monday 27th February, 2017.
