Last Thursday, 16th February 2017, the newly appointed Board of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) headed by the Chairman, Professor Kabineh Koroma conducted a comprehensive tour on the Sub offices of EDSA including Electricity House and Falcon Bridge.
This is the first visit made by the Chairman and his Board Members since appointed by H.E the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. The visit was geared towards inspecting the facilities as well as familiarizing with Staff of EDSA.
In his statement, the Chairman of the Board, Professor Kabineh Koroma expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to all staff members of EDSA for working assiduously to provide power supply amid enormous challenges they are faced with in the execution of the duties. He therefore called on them all to join forces with the newly appointed Board in order to provide sustainable, reliable and effective electricity for all and sundry. Adding that “me and my board members are willing and ever ready to cooperate with you all in order to move forward from this static place we are to a faster and developmental stage. We should form a synergy so as to eradicate blackout in our beloved country”
He further stated that working in the electricity sector is not an easy task but one that requires dedication and wiliness. The Chairman noted that the Board is ready to work with industrious persons who are avid of development in the Authority and ready to make efforts in order to enhance the growth and success of the Authority in its drive to provide adequate electricity for all Sierra Leoneans.
Professor Kabineh Koroma lamented that there are lots of rumors making the rounds pertaining EDSA which he believes are not proper for the credibility and does not reflect any good image of the Authority. In his exact words, he said “People are pointing fingers on EDSA vilifying our institution, we must do everything within our powers to abort this unfortunate issue. People are alleging that our services are not effective, therefore we must step up our efforts to change that narrative perception and we can only that when all hands-on deck for the development of EDSA and Sierra Leone as a whole”
He hammered that he has received several complains from staff of EDSA and that all complains will be settled within the shortest possible time.
Speaking on behalf of the Staff members, Theophilous Amara, expressed willingness to work amicably with the Chairman and Board for a Sustainable Electricity Distribution in the Country. He therefore called on the Board to improve on the Condition of services for staff and promised the Board of their fullest cooperation and commitment for a conducive coexistence working atmosphere. He added that “We work 24/7 around the clock, even when people are asleep; we are on the streets to make sure that electricity reaches everyone. We are therefore craving for the Board and even the government of Sierra Leone for the improvement of our condition of services” he disclosed.
Responding to the comment of the staff, the Chairman maintained that, the Board is going to look at the condition of services for all staff of EDSA and see what it could do. He however admonished them to go by the provisions of the laws of EDSA “there is a hand book and I want you all to abide by that hand book. I also urge you to be very much professional in terms of dealing with customers, this is a utility business and in such case the customer is always correct, we should always maximize the satisfaction of the customer”
In conclusion, the Deputy Director General of EDSA, Dr. Henry Saccoi, heaped praises on the Chairman for his positive move by conducting this comprehensive tour to get the Board acquainted with staff members and contemporary happenings in the institution “management is willing to work with the board and staff members for a proper work force”
