On Tuesday 28th February 2017 at about 5:30 pm there was serious pandemonium between Easton Street and Dan Lane along Kissy Road caused by students from Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School, Sierra Leone Muslim Congress and the Albert Academy Secondary School all in Freetown.
Meanwhile, some peaceful citizens who were going about their normal activities including this reporter were injured as they were pelted with stones by the so-called students whose behavior is not different from cliques and gangs.
The cause of the fighting in not clear but this reporter saw some Ahmadiyya and Congress students chasing some Albert Academy students, but what marveled people within the vicinity was that all of them were in their school uniforms.
In the violence, it is not only passersby that suffered but even traders suffered as most of them lost their wares and monies. Mabinty Kargbo who sells eggs and other assorted items not only lost her wares but was seriously injured as she was hit by a big stone and had to be rushed to hospital for treatment.
The whole area was disserted as if it was a curfew that had been declared as people closed their houses and stayed indoors to avoid being a victim of the violence.
It was the timely intervention of AIG Memuna of the Ross Road Police Station that brought the situation under control.
What is more worrisome and demands explanation is, for how long will students continue to hold peaceful citizens to ransom by preventing citizens from carrying out their normal activities.
We are calling on school Authorities, parents and all concern stakeholders to warn students to desist from such activities, or else the law will fall heavily on them.
