His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma in his capacity as Chairman and Leader of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party has together with other stakeholders of the party on Thursday 2nd March 2017, pay visit to the family of the Late Mr. Edward Walter Babatunde Gustavus Blyden.
Speaking during the visit, President Koroma stressed that the passing-away of Mr. Blyden is indeed a sad loss to the party. President Koroma acknowledged the tremendous work exhibited by Mr. Blyden. He said, as former APC National Youth League (NYL) Organising Secretary, Mr. Blyden exhibited passion that led to the APCís victory in the 1967 presidential polls. That poll saw the APC won the Presidency against then incumbent Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

Receiving the guests at her daughterís home in 8 Ndoeka Drive, Cockle Bay, Off Aberdeen Ferry Rd, Freetown, Mrs Jolliminah Sylvia E. Blyden the widow of Mr. Edward Blyden; thanked the President for sacrificing amongst his busy schedules to come and console her bereaved family. Mrs Blyden said that her husband was indeed a great husband who sacrificed a lot for the APC. She said her husband mobilized students from the university to march to protect Siaka Stevens in 1967 when the APC's victory was plotted to be snatched and Stevens locked up. She said, she is very proud of him.
The visit was climaxed with prayers from Muslim and Christian representatives.
