Yesterday 9th March 2017, at the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 presided by Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara in Freetown , the state prosecutor A.J.M. Bockarie, led in evidence the first prosecution witness in the alleged murder case of the retired Army Chief of Defense Staff, Major Simeon .O. Williams.
Abdulai Barrie who happens to be the first prosecution witness in the matter told the court that he is a brother-in-law to the deceased, late Simeon .O. Williams and he continued that he was staying together with the deceased at his residence at Devil Hole before SO Williams was killed by the accused persons. He added that on Thursday December 22nd 2016, together with Mohamed Thoronka , Mr Kabba ,Rose, Wilma Bah and Mr. Collier, they were watching movies at the parlor of the late Simeon .O. Williams.
He went on that later on the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) power went off and suddenly the entire compound became dark. He added that they left the parlor and went into their various rooms whilst Mr. Kabba departed to his house. He continued that he then asked Mohamed Thoronka to close the main door to the house.
Abdulai Barrie disclosed that around 2:00 am in the morning, Mohamed Thoronka ran quietly into his room and whisper to him that thieves had stormed the house. He added that together they went to the main parlor and they discovered that lots of items that worth millions of Leones were missing and the main door was widely opened. He went on that immediately they started shouting “thief … thief … thief” mainly to alert the neighborhood about the incident.
He added that they went to the late Simeon .O. Williams but they were unable to enter his room as the door was closed and after persistent knocking but to no avail the late Simeon .O. Williams did not respond. He went on that they left and called Mr. Kabba at his residence and he added that together with Mr. Kabba they came back to the house of the deceased and Mr. Kabba switch on his touch light they saw foot mark of blood stains from the stairway to the room of the late Simeon .O. Williams. He added that when they reached at the late Simeon .O. Williams room, Mr. Kabba forcefully pushed the door and they saw the late Simeon .O. Williams lying dead in a pool of blood.
Abdulai Barrie went on that he made phone calls to the relatives of the late Simeon .O. Williams and told them of the incident. He added that he later made statement to police.
Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara then remanded the accused person to the Male Correctional Center at Pademba Road in Freetown and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday April 6th 2017, for continuation.
