Plan International Sierra Leone donated food and non-food items to fire victims at Kwellu Village, Fankunya Chiefdom, Mayamba District on the 24th March 2017.
The fire devastated the lives of 9 households constituting of 59 persons, including Plan International’s Sponsored Children. Houses of the victims were burnt down, destroying all livelihood materials, school materials and their basic needs, which left them shattered.
After 9 days of the incident, Plan International Sierra Leone and its staff donated 25 kg of Rice per household, Cooking utensils (pot, plate, spoon and ladle and bucket distributed per household), School materials ( bag, exercise books, pen, pencil per pupil), Roofing zinc (two bundle of zinc per house) and Used Clothing provided by Plan Staff.
Speaking at the donation ceremony in Kwellu village, the Acting Sponsorship Manager Josephine Fiawornu thanked Plan International Sierra Leone and members of staff for their contribution in responding to the fire disaster. She added that whatever facility or structure that is being provided in the community by Plan International is for the benefit of women and children, especially girls because they are the future of every community.
