Sierra Leone News : The 50\50 Group Sensitizes Regent Community Women on Maternal Mortality

The 50\50 group in collaboration with Christian Aid Sierra Leone has on Thursday 30th March 2017, held a dialogue program on empowering community women on addressing high incidences of maternal mortality and morbidity of women at the Regent Community Center.

 

The president of the 50\50 group, Dr. Fatu Taqi opened the workshop by elaborating on early pregnancy. She pointed out the constrain mothers face on pregnancy and child birth. She went on further to encourage the people to tell others to prevent rapid death of infant and pregnant women. Dr. Fatu Taqi also encourage the men to also support their wives during pregnancy and make sure they avoid a lot of pressure.


Furthermore, Mrs. Jeane Kamara who represented the Christian Aid said, she believed in health and not poverty. She encourages women to come onboard and work for the Country’s progress. She went on further to say that in every successful country, there is a woman in front and emphasis on the important of time. She said parent should focus on spending more time with children affairs and so as to help them build up their future.

 

Among the sessions that were elaborated during the workshop, the Vice President of the 50\50 group Mrs. Elizabeth Saffa shared experience with the people on the expectations from people in the community. She talks about the challenges community members face, the support mothers should give to a girl child of early pregnancy and how to help on safe delivery. .

 

A CHO Nurse from the Regent Community Center Isha Fany Conteh explained another session of the workshop on high Maternal Mortality and why is it affecting the people negatively. She pointed out that parent lack proper family planning and also sensitized on parent to give marklate to children and pregnant woman most attend clinic exclusively.


Other topics discussed at the workshop were like Human Right Issues, Safe Motherhood, Health Facilities for child bearing and women and girls and Building support groups for pregnant and lactating women.
