The Western Area Assistant Chief Fire Officer of the Sierra Leone Fire Force, Mr. Julius Kondoh has confirmed to the Awareness Times Newspaper that during their operations in putting off a fire outbreak that occurred in the early hours of yesterday Monday April 3rd , at the Susanís Bay Community, in the slumps of  Freetown , three of their Frontline officers seriously injured and they are currently responding to treatment at the hospital.

He went on that although they are investigation the root cause of the fire outbreak but from what they have gathered so far have revealed that the fire outbreak may have been caused by some  petroleum products that some of the affected people may have kept at their houses. He added that since he started working as a fire fighter officer in the country, the fire outbreak at the Susanís Bay is unique as they had to use six (6) fire engines to put off the fire so as to save lives and properties. He added that unfortunately, three of their men collapsed during the operations and they were constraints to take them to the hospital and unless they have to dismantle one of their fire engines to take them to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Mr Julius Kondoh therefore urged the government and other development partners to come to their aid by providing station medical ambulance at their offices so that they can easily access medical facilities during operations as and when the need arises. He added that one of the Frontline Fire fighters was in a critical condition at the Connaught Hospital and the other two officers are responding to treatments at the Macauley Street hospital in Freetown.

Mr Julius Kondoh further admonished those that are in the habit of keeping fuel in their rooms and other petroleum products to stop because they are endangering their lives and the lives of other peaceful Sierra Leoneans.

One of the stakeholders of Susanís Bay community, Mr. Abdul Kamara commended the Fire Force Officers for putting off the fire and preventing it from transferring or spreading into other neighborhood. He added that although the community is not accessible for vehicular movement but the fire fighter officers stood their grounds firmly to put off the fire mainly to save lives.

He continued that three of the frontline fire fighters got injured in the verge of saving the lives of two children who were at the peril to be consumed by the fire. Ďí We greatly appreciate the efforts of the fire fighters for rescuing the poor children,Ē he lamented. He went on that about two hundred people are affected by the fire accident and properties worth millions of Leones were claimed by the fire outbreak. He went on that so far they have no report of death and confirmed that three fire fighters officers were seriously injured and they were taken to the hospital for immediate treatment.
