Masada, has in a press release yesterday Tuesday 4th April 2017, “inform the General Public that it is unable to continue providing cleaning services to the City of Freetown through Freetown City Council.”
The release comes after days of down-tools which, according to our reporter, has resulted into massive filth in the city of Freetown.
According to the Masada press release, the Freetown City Council owed them over eight (8) months of outstanding payments.
In addition, the release states that “Masada has used own funds to continue work throughout this period but our Bankers are constrained to continue extending credit to us.”
The release added “our workers are on strike for salaries and threatening to destroy our facilities.”
Therefore, the Masada press release states that “in order to prevent a further deterioration of the situation, we have no choice but to suspend services until further notice.”
Meanwhile, all efforts to get on to Freetown City Council for their reaction have thus proven futile. However, Awareness Times Newspaper will surely run their side as we are able to get on to them.
It could be recalled that the responsibility for the cleaning of the Freetown Municipality was officially handed over to the Masada Waste Management Company at a well attended signing ceremony in 2013 at the Freetown Waste Management Company (FWMC) office in Freetown.
Masada was to collect, manage and convert the country’s municipal solid and liquid wastes into renewable fuels.
However, according to their press release, Masada had to down-tool because of the reasons cited above.
