Sierra Leone’s ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has continued to grip firm its stronghold of the Northern Province of the Country.
The Northern Province of Sierra Leone, which comprises of Port Loko District, Bombali District, Kambia District, Tonkolili District and Koinadugu District, has eversince the assumption of President Koroma of the position as chairman and leader of the APC been a stronghold of the party, and the party has continued its winning speeds in almost all local councils wards and constituencies elections there.
This is clearly seen during the just concluded bye elections on Saturday 29th April 2017, on two northern wards, in both Bombali and Port Loko districts respectively, for which the APC also won both.
However, the APC party must be very strategic in dealing with a new threat that plunged its northern base.
This threat revolves around the strategies used by the chairman and leader of the newly formed Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamaraimba Mansaray, in galvanizing over 10% of votes for both the two bye elections held in Ward 186 Port Loko District, and Ward 086 Bombali District.
The results though put APC as landslide winners in both elections, and with an increased percentage of votes in particularly the Port Loko’s bye election( in 2012 local council election, the APC scored 61.56 in ward 186), can still be a cautioned for the ruling Party, with regards to fighting two opposition political parties in its heartland.
Results for both bye elections are published below.
