The two accused people, Alhassan Bangura and Damba Kamara yesterday May 4th 2017, have made their first appearance before Magistrate Dr. Abou Bakarr Binneh Kamara of the Siaka Steven Street Magistrate Court No.1 for the allegedly offense of conspiracy contrary to law by obtaining the sum of seven hundred United States Dollars which is equivalent to five trillion one hundred and eighty billion, one hundred and thirty million Leones from one Ghanaian national, Fitnat Omari Ababio with the pretext that they have gold for sale.
According to police charge shit, the accused people, Alhassan Bangura and Damba Kamara on a diverse dates between April 2011 and December 2016 at Adonkia Village ,Goderich in the Western Area of Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown and obtained the sum of seven million United States of America dollars (USD $700,000) that is equivalent to five trillion one hundred and eighty billion, one hundred and thirty million Leones from one Ghanaian national, Fitnat Omari Ababio with the ploy that they have gold for sale.
The lead defense counsel, A.K. Kamara in his passionate bail application for the accused people said that accused people have been in detention for over twenty days (20). He added that before their incarceration at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarter in Freetown, the police investigators dealing with the matter initially granted bail to their clients and upon request of the investigators, the accused people went on their own to the CID headquarter. He continued that the accused people will not jump bail if the court minded to grant them bail and that they have reliable sureties to enter into their recognizant.
The prosecutor in charge of the matter, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Kamara seek for an adjournment that the accused people were not properly charged to court and that considering nature of the offense allegedly committed by the accused people ,the charges are not sufficient.
Upon this request, Magistrate Dr. Abou Bakarr Kamara has remanded the accused people to the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown and adjourned the matter to Wednesday May 10 2017 for continuation.
